Gambas al pil pil (Sizzling prawns)

I like to collect cooking books from the countries I visit. That is, when I remember, find a book store and there is a book in a language I understand. All this combined happens seldom.
I bought some prawns to make Gambas al ajillo (Garlic shrimps) and looked for the recipe on a book called 'Cooking in Spain' by Janet Mendel. I couldn't find the very popular recipe but I found instead Gambas al pil pil which, to be honest, seem pretty similar!

Serves: 2 persons (starter) or 1 person (main).

Ingredients:
  • 200g king prawns (17 prawns) - peeled
  • 2 garlic cloves or, if you are brave (like me!), 3 cloves - crushed
  • 1 chili pepper or, if you are brave (not like me!), 2 chili peppers - chopped
  • pinch of paprika
  • olive oil
Method:
  1. Add plenty of olive oil to a frying pan and let it get quite hot. This dish is cooked in a high heat.
  2. Add the garlic, chili pepper and paprika and let them cook for a few seconds to release the flavours.
  3. Add the prawns and toss them regularly for about 5 min until they turn pink and curl slightly.
  4. Serve immediately.

Make sure you have plenty of bread. Waste not the flavoursome oil!
